Damiano Ciolli "Silene" Cesanese 2024 Lazio, Italy

Light, fresh and delicately aromatic red wines are always a part of my dinner table. Damiano Ciolli's Silene, named aptly enough for a variety of local wildflower that grows in the hills of this region of southern Lazio, only 30 miles or so south of Rome, has these qualities in abundance. Made entirely of the local Cesanese grape, grown in predominantly volcanic soil, the wine is aged for a year in concrete tanks which accentuates the lively red fruited, mineral notes of the wine and amplifies it's freshness.
