Ronchi di Cialla, Schioppettino "RiNera" 2023 Friuli, Italy

Schioppettino was all but a forgotten red grape until 1970 when Paolo Rapuzzi, the founder of the Ronchi Di Cialla wine estate of Friuli Colli Orientali in northeastern Italy revived grape with new plantings. The estate's forst vintage was 1977 and today they are considered to being the benchmark producer of wines from this grape. Schioppettino is a light to medium bodied wine; spicy with white pepper, mineral and a tad of earthiness; and very pretty red berry fruits. Very delicious, chill- able and quite versatile for any number of white meats, seafood and fish as well as a perfect pizza wine!
